Improving your overall lifestyle and everyday habits is important for personal growth and development. While it may seem unachievable to change your current habits, taking these steps will help improve our mind, body and soul. We can’t change our lives and who we are in one day but we can work on small changes each day, to try and improve your quality of life.
Start with small goals and over time aim higher, before you know it you will have the lifestyle you’ve always wanted. Just remember to be dedicated and to keep at it, as Theodore Roosevelt once said “Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain and difficulty. I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.”

Strengthen your body

Take simple steps to maintain a healthy weight. We all know the basics like; taking the stairs over the elevator. However, we rarely think about how our bodies sit. While it seems like a simple task, your current chairs could be doing more harm than good. It’s important that your abdominal muscles are activated whilst sitting. You may not realise it but your core muscles have a huge impact on the rest of your body. Your abdominal muscles help support your back and spine. If your muscles are weak your back will be working overtime to try and compensate for the lack of support your spine is getting.

Getting enough sleep

While it seemed like the worst thing in the world as a kid, as an adult I love going to bed early! A lack of sleep causes us to feel tired and unproductive the next day. This will prevent you from achieving your goals and feeling accomplished. By getting to bed earlier, you can get up earlier and start the day in a productive way. Make the bed, have a healthy breakfast, shower and be prepared for the day.

If you’re having trouble sleeping, try to get into a routine of waking up and going to sleep at the same time every day. Avoid caffeine, alcohol and too much food right before bed as they all interfere with you sleeping habits. Turning off all technology and focusing on your breathing half an hour before bed can also help you to fall asleep.

Whether you’re sitting at a desk or you’ve been gardening all day, you need to unwind and maintain a relaxed body. Be organised

Plan your day and stick to it! Setting goals for yourself is a great way to make the most of your time. If there are a number of things you want to achieve in a day, set your goals but ensure they are achievable. You will stay more motivated and focused on your goals if you are able to continually tick things off your to do list.
