Litro Live! at the Camden Crawl – click to listen to Ana Silvera perform one of her songs at last Sunday’s Litro Live!

It may not have been the sunniest of Bank Holiday weekends in London on Sunday, but that was no deterrent to Litro Live! and the audience who gathered in the Edinboro Castle in Camden for our eclectic and exciting mix of leftfield performers. Singer and musican Ana Silvera charmed with her intimate and beguiling set; Garth Cartwright read from and discussed More Miles than Money: Journeys Through American Music, accompanied by Errol Linton on the harmonica. Journalist and writer Philip Wilding took us on a dark but comic trail with readings from his work,  included his acclaimed new novel Cross Country Murder Songs; Chris Salewicz, author of Redemption Song, discussed Bob Marley, his legacy and the Jamican music scene. London trio and Battle of the Bands 2007 finalists Mad Dog performed their set of blues-inspired underground rock; whilst event host MC Angel presented her upfront and witty observations on modern life and DJ 10sui (Tracie Storey) spun the decks between the acts.

Litro Live! at Gaymer’s Camden Crawl

an evening of storytelling and music

SUNDAY MAY 2nd, 12pm-7pm

@ The Edinboro Castle, Camden, NW1 7RU

Litro Magazine, London’s leading free short story magazine, brings together a combustive mix of leftfield literary and musical talent, established and new, for a cider-sponsored springtime celebration of the free spirit of words and music…

Garth Cartwright, award-winning journalist and acclaimed music writer, will be talking us through his latest work, More Miles than Money, an epic trek through the backwoods of America to rediscover the roots music – blues and country, folk and soul – that he loves, accompanied by Brixton-born blues man Errol Linton on the blues harp.

Philip Wilding, co-presenter with Phil Jupitus of the BBC6 Music Breakfast Show and multi-talented journalist and writer, will be reading selections from his contemporary noir debut novel, Cross Country Murder Song – published to rave reviews in February 2010.

Bestselling music biographer Chris Salewicz will be bringing to life a legendary and enigmatic figure like never before, with a selection of readings from his impeccably researched book, Bob Marley: The Untold Story, followed by a Q&A session.

Later on, special guest DJ 10SUi aka Tracie Storey the ‘First Lady of Breaks,’ will be tantalising the audience with her fine vinyl and turntable trickery.

Ana Silvera – named recently as ‘a major talent in the offing’ (Music Week) – will be singing songs from her first studio album – contemporary and alternative with a lush, intimate sound that is fast gaining recognition among discerning critics and fans alike.

Finally, south London trio Mad Dog will be playing a high-tempo set of underground rock. Finalists of the Battle of the Bands competition in 2007, they have a taut, intelligent, classic blues power-rock sound that is at once classic and completely their own.
