LitroLive! 29th October
6pm ’til the Witching Hour
HYDE PARK MACABRE
A warming night of eldritch tales and songs,
roast chestnuts and whisky, art and conviviality,
at the Serpentine Bar & Kitchen, Hyde Park
As winter draws frostily near, and the curtain between the worlds of sense and spirit is inched open, LitroLive! ventures into Hyde Park for its biggest party yet. Partnering with the Royal Parks and the Serpentine Bar & Kitchen, we bring Litro magazine’s inventiveness – and an armful of artists, established and new – to Londoners both quick and dead, and to lovers of the spoken and sung word.

Ticket type

Tickets bought after 28 October will be charged at £7 on the door.

words:
China Miéville – Britain’s brightest and boldest author of fantastic fiction and doyen of the “New Weird” reads from his novel in progress, Kraken.
Praise for The City and the City
‘Call it a love letter to the diversity, polyglot sprawl, complexities, contradictions, pitfalls, humanity and street-life of the metropolis.’- Los Angeles Times ‘A weird and ingenious idea so cleverly and convincingly carried out that the result bears comparison with the modernist myths of Kafka or Borges. No kidding… This is an exceptional novel: audacious, original and haunting’- Daily Mail
‘There is no one else writing stuff like this’- Dazed and Confused

Kevin Jackson on vampires

Kevin Jackson’s childhood ambition was to be a vampire but instead he became a polymath. His colossal expertise ranges from Seneca to Sugababes, with a special interest in the occult, Ruskin, take-away food, Dante’s Inferno and the moose. Biteis the indispensable companion to the age of the vampire. It’s like Schott’s, but it casts no shadow…Roger Clarke on British ghosts and the movies
The restless food and film writer, author of Story of The Scene, will talk about what really happened on the set of Vampire’s Kiss, and about his forthcoming History of British Ghosts.
Courttia Newland
The novelist, anthologist, literary ambassador and editor of The Global Village reads his new short story, an unsettling moral tale of unexpected eeriness in the everyday.
‘As literary culture, we are chronically short of this sort of fiction. Voices like Newland’s provide a vital counterpoint to the likes of Bridget Jones.’- Financial Times
‘Britain’s brightest black writer’- Evening Standard
‘Newland will open up the world of fiction to a whole new audience.’- The Guardian
Music:
Niall McDevitt
Dark Star of the London performance scene, shamanic poet, actor and psychogeographer (channelling the spirits of Blake and Rimbaud in his infamous alternative City tours), Niall McDevitt’s bodhran, guitar and wolfish voice once formed half of London-Irish folk-punk act The McDevels, but tonight he treats us to a solo set of macabre musings.
Art:
Adele Morse

4 New Sensation Adele, fresh from Frieze, is twenty four and going places. A certified taxidermist, her phantasmagoric works of insistently macabre imagination meld animal body parts and human attributes to unsettling effect.
Drinks:
Highland Park Whisky
Enjoy complimentary drams of this fine single malt. After gaining the accolade ‘best spirit in the world’ for the second year running, the fine folk from Highland Park are “delighted to come to LitroLive! and offer guests something to warm them up on a dark Autumn night.”
